Sarah Winward
ALLOW US TO INTRODUCE YOU TO SARAH WINWARD: Sarah is a highly sought-after destination floral designer who creates textured, ethereal arrangements, inspired by the changing seasons of nature. Her philosophy is to spotlight floral in a way that it appears natural to the environment it is being viewed in. As a result, her flowers evoke the feeling of having been freshly picked from a backyard garden. She takes great care in selecting the materials for each unique arrangement. Florals are often sourced locally; always the perfect extension of the event surroundings. Sarah works with couples in a variety of environments internationally but currently calls the base of the Rocky Mountains her home. Her floral design studio, Honey of a Thousand Flowers, is located in Salt Lake City, Utah. She accepts a very limited number of weddings each year so that she can fully immerse herself in each one. INSPIRED BY THE OUTDOORS: Sarah spent her childhood almost entirely outdoors and pulls from that personal history for her stunning floral inspiration. She has traveled worldwide, from Ireland where she incorporated giant Birch tree branches, to Thailand, where her arrangements included seashells and tropical flowers unique to the area. Whatever she creates, she wants it to truly capture the natural surrounding environment and season, along with the original style and vision of her wedding couples. Driven by her connection to nature, Sarah sees floral artistry as so much more than simply décor on a table. She strives to show that—like people—each plant and flower has an individual personality that should be showcased and celebrated.
ROMANTIC ARRANGMENTS: Sarah’s designs have been widely featured in numerous national and international publications, including Flower Magazine, which recently described her work as: “Old world designs filled with romance.” Her designs seem to leap from the rich brushstrokes of renaissance paintings, as she layers dahlias, jasmine vine, wild grasses, delphinium, and Queen Anne’s lace with a master’s touch. It’s no wonder the article dubbed Sarah’s Instagram site one of “9 Instagram Accounts to Follow if You Love Flowers.”
Sarah has also been featured in print in a variety of prestigious publications including Martha Stewart Winter 2014, Martha Stewart Spring 2015, Martha Stewart Autumn 2015, Brides Magazine Summer 2015, Geraldine Magazine, Floral Contemporary Book, and many other blogs, editorials, and websites.
In addition to her floral design features and wedding event work, Sarah also travels worldwide to teach personalized workshops on floral artistry and running a floral business.
BLOSSOMING ARTIST: Long before becoming an internationally recognized floral designer, Sarah was studying in the Middle East. There she worked in flower shops, answering phones and sweeping up the stem-strewn floors. After one shot at helping her friends create their own wedding flowers, she was permanently hooked on floral design. Soon after, countless friends were inquiring about her reimagined designs, which led to floral blog posts, an official website, and clientele. She described the process as, “fast and fluid.”
She now shares her Salt Lake City-based design studio with her husband, where she planted a cutting garden that she can harvest Lamb’s ear, heuchera, and zinnia for her unique bouquets. Ever inspired by the natural world around her, Sarah continues to focus on collaborating with couples to create flowers that are distinctive to their event, along with arrangements that are an extension of their surroundings.
“The earth is strong. It is this unapologetic wildness that pushes me to create flowers. I want to evoke these same emotions in those that view my work. I want people to see flowers differently than they have before, and not just see them, but experience and feel each piece I create.” – Sarah Winward
